Habitats for Humanity

For the month of October, I volunteered for Habitats for Humanity. This organization provides low income families in New Orleans an opportunity to build and finance safe, affordable homes. I was designated to go to a location in east New Orleans at 8 am. When I got there, the house was pretty well built, but needed some finishing touches such as painting and ventilation. We were split into different teams and my team’s primary responsibility was to set up F-lines. These lines are set up around the top of the house   for ventilation purposes and  keeping insects out of the house. This job was physically demanding as you had to climb a ladder and then manually nail in the F-lines as well as its supporting structure. In addition, the temperature was well into the 90s, and therefore, made the task even more difficult. It didn’t seem like we were making much progress initially but at the end of the day our F-lines could be clearly seen around the entire house. This was a unique
