February 2019

The month of February has been really stressful to say the least, but at the same time it has exciting in many ways as well. This month I found out that I got accepted to medical school in Alabama and I’m really exciting to begin this new journey. With excitement also comes nervousness. I’m nervous about leaving New Orleans and going to a different state, meeting new people and above all starting a long journey in medical school. I am grateful that I did this master’s program because I feel I am well prepared for the medical school curriculum. Before starting medical school, I plan on traveling and relaxing but also, I want to finish this master’s program on a strong note. I want to do well on the NBME test because the material will be tested again in medical school. Furthermore, I reached out to Green Light New Orleans this month to see if there were any volunteering opportunities. January 2019

Last semester, I got the opportunity to volunteer for many wonderful organizations such as Habitats for Humanity and Green Light New Orleans.   This semester I hope to expand on this and reach out to more people in the community. I am excited about volunteering with Green Light New Orleans because I got to connect with a lot of Tulane students while also meeting the people of New Orleans. Through this origination, I helped the residents get more energy efficient LED lightbulbs and I hope to continue this and reduce the carbon footprint.   In addition, I didn’t get a chance last semester to volunteer at Children’s Hospital but I am committed to making it happen this semester. I used to work with Dr. Baum until he retired and he would show magic tricks to his patients during their visit. While working under him, I learned a lot of these tricks as well. My project this semester is to go to Children’s Hospital and show kids, who are going through rehab, these ...

Green Light New Orleans

During the month of December, I decided to try something different and volunteered for Green Light New Orleans. This organization believes in making a positive impact on the environment by taking small initiatives. The volunteers install energy efficient light bulbs, rain barrels and back yard garden vegetables in the homes of New Orleans residents. I felt very connected with the ideas of this organization because I am also someone who believes that if we all take small steps to reduce our carbon footprints, then it would make a huge environmental difference. I was partnered up with two Tulane undergrad students and we were given the address to 4 houses to install energy efficient light bulbs. During our drive, the students and I opened up about our backgrounds and got to know each other really well. The first house to we went to was in East New Orleans and we were greeted by a gentleman was looked to be in his late 30s. Our first task was to get permission to enter ...
